Garcia was captain of Mable Falls' high school team, and took it to 3rd in regional competition in 2003. They then came 6th in the year 2006, being the 6th-placed team. Garcia began her golf studies with Texas Christain University, where she spent two years studying before switching to University of Texas. When she arrived at Texas Christain University she was introduced to a competitive setting that made it easier for her to improve her skills as a golfer. When she finished her degree in journalism, she was hired at Fox Sports Southwest as a journalist.
